1933-1949? Schwinn's Chicago factory closed in 1982. Schwinn dropped “Arnold” from their name in the late 1960s. The serial number could be from 1949, but the skip tooth chain puts it before WWII or just after. Schwinn did make an Admiral (for another company) circa 1920. This bike was not rumored to carry the Schwinn name. More likely, the contract with the other company expired and Schwinn simply started slapping their name on the Admiral. I believe the motorcycle “tank” started in the 1930s, and the less fancy models came out a few years later. There were some war restrictions, so late 30s is more likely than early 40s. Schwinn’s 2 1/8 inch balloon tire came out in 1933. That might not be very useful info since the tires are not likely to be orginal. Serial number seems to fit 1949 format.
Serial Number(bb): S317275 (1949)
